At my last photography class- we picked the prettiest pic that we have taken all year from all of us and the winner got his/her pic blown up and printed....well I came in second, and the photographer liked this so much he's still going to make me a 11 x 14!!

Sooo now I will always be reminded of when we went to NYC!! We also got to show off our skills in the studio. We had to bring our own model....mine wasn't TOO cooperative, but he had fun!

Blessings through the Curses

As you know, Aaron is gone to Fort Benning- basically living there and visiting home on the weekends. This may be a tad personal, but I have had a very hard time handling this. It's like he's close enough to home, but too far away to be home... and he's living in a hotel-like room, and what are Ryder and I supposed to do? Ryder and I took our first trip down there, and well.... let's just say for starters, we can't let Ryder cry because Aaron has neighbors, Ryder's pack-n-play was in the closet, though he wouldn't sleep in it, and what am I supposed to do with a toddler all day while Aaron is in class and I have no idea where I am or where to go?

Ok, so all of this plus having my husband gone 5 out of 7 days of the week was really stressing me out, especially when I'm used to having everything laid out- I feel like our lives are up in the air with trying to live in two places at the same time and it's driving me crazy. When we got home today, I did laundry and I'm thinking we are going to be nomads for the next 6 months... anyways, as I was crying to Aaron about all this, he said (I'm paraphrasing) Danielle, it could be much worse- I could be states away. So, I'm going to find the blessings in all of this and allow God to work:

Complaint: Aaron gone and not being at home where he belongs
Blessing: Our love & relationship will grow even stronger

Complaint: Being a "single" mom throughout the week
Blessing: Getting to spend all of that time with my little boy & being thankful I'm a SAHM (I could not even imagine doing all of this if I was still working)

Complaint: Driving a long 2.5 hours either by myself or with a fussy toddler the whole time
Blessing: At least we are able to drive to and from each other

Complaint: Handling with living in a little room with all three of us
Blessing: This will be huge bonding family time and as Aaron calls it- having fun in the"clubhouse"

Complaint: I don't understand why Aaron has to do this, this that takes him away from us
Blessing: We are doing God's will, this school will help him promote in one of his loves- the Army.

Complaint: I can't have as much "me" time with just one of us here with Ryder
Blessing: I'm about to finish photography classes, and I start sewing classes in March- that's some awesome "me" time if I do say so myself. AND I'm about to graduate with my Masters, so that's def a blessing and something I won't have to worry about anymore.

So though, this is thankfully not like the deployment, there are definitely similarities, such as being on my own (though, with a little one), handling everything at home, and pretty much being alone most of the time. Like I did during the deployment, I know that God is using us for His purpose, and He's putting us through a trial so we have the chance to stand faithful to Him. That's the biggest blessing- feeling His comfort & grace surrounding us. So, if you have a sec- please pray for us that we can make it gracefully through this, make the most of going to visit Aaron, and creating an even stronger relationship between us and with our sweet Savior...

First Haircut

Well, while we were at Fort Benning, I decided I could handle Ryder getting his first haircut. Aaron had always wanted it to be on the square in Dahlonega where Aaron went all through college, but we thought we could settle for Fort Benning (at least it was army related). I cried. My baby looks like a little boy and I wasn't ready for that...

Ok, so here's the bottom line. Right now I'm in Aaron's room in Fort Benning while he's in class. Ry man is finally napping in the closet, yes in the closet. If you can picture like a hotel room....well that's it- that's what it looks like. I have tried to make it homey, and even decorated his room in patriotic colors, but honestly- stuck in a little room with a toddler is not a picnic. Though, this is temporary and Ry and I will mainly be living at home. But anyways- totally not the point. The point of this is tomorrow I have a test in photography, and I have no notecards around me. I know many of ya'll who read this have a DSLR camera (all two of you), and perhaps while I'm typing everything out (to instill it in my mind for the test), maybe you can use the info to actually use your camera in manual mode.... crazy, I know, but like I said I'M IN A SMALL ROOM WITH A TODDLER WHO'S NAPPING & I'M BORED..... ok? Great! Thanks for understanding.

Let's start with the basics:
After you put your camera in manual mode, you have to adjust your settings: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO (and maybe white balance).

Shutter speed is how long your shutter is open to let the light into the camera- this controls the motion/blur
The longer the shutter speed is open, the more light will come in.

A high shutter speed (1/1000, 1/500) can stop blurry photos, like if you trying to get a moving car.

Aperture ( F stop) is how big the opening is in the camera lens- this control the depth of field
The larger the F stop number (like f16, or f22) the smaller the hole for light to come in and the more the depth of field will be in focus
The smaller the F stop number (like f2.5 or f1.4) the bigger the hole for light to come in and the less the depth of field will be in focus (like one thing focus with background blurry).
Usually the brighter the light- the smaller the F stop (bigger hole), and the darker the light, the bigger the F stop (smaller hole).

ISO is how sensitive the sensor is, and how much exposure does it need to get the right exposure- this controls noise

The brighter the light- the lower the ISO (100), the darker the light- the higher the ISO (1600).
A higher ISO also means more noise (which doesn't really mean anything unless you are blowing up the pic huge)

There is also the histogram on the camera, which looks like mountain ranges, but when compared to a pic, if you can tell you if the pic is over, under, or correctly exposed (the lines should center around the middle for correct exposure). So, you can look at this while you are taking pics to adjust your settings.

Also, white balance (WB) is important. Though, your camera is probably on AWB (auto white balance), and that's ok, but know you can press that button to change it to different settings, like daylight, tungsten, etc.

Ok, well this info may not help you at all, or me for that matter (evidently many fail this test), or maybe it did. I created a cheat sheet on a notecard that says what settings to use when, and it's taped in my camera case :) So, just FYI... I'll let you know if our little study session helped.

Rule of Thirds

So, as you know I'm taking the photography class, and this homework assignment is taking pics using the Rule of Thirds- which essentially is if you were to divide your photograph in thirds, horizontally and vertically, you would have nine boxes, and four intersections like this:

Evidently it's proven that when someone looks at a photo, their eyes automatically go to an intersection- thus, your point of interest needs to be at an intersection to be interesting and well-balanced. Here's what I did today keeping this in mind:

So, there's a little photo tip....probably more to come...maybe I'll get into ISO, aperture, and shutter speed next. I'm proud to say it's been awhile since I took a pic automatically! :)

Final(ly) Post: Cupcake War

Here is my favorite (and last) post- Cupcakes!!! One reason I loved going with just Aaron, was I felt like I could go and do whatever- including indulging on two things I love- baking & sewing. We went to numerous bakeries trying to decide who had the best cupcake. And as for sewing- we went to Mood (from Project Runaway) and I got some fabrics! I didn't take any pics at Mood, because well...I didn't want to seem like a tourist :) Oh, and some of these shots were for my photography class homework.

Anyways, here's our first bakery stop. There's many locations of these in NYC. This is the one beside Rockefeller Center.

Yes, this is THE Babycakes Bakery! I couldn't wait to hit this bakery! I did get a cookbook- which just FYI- she (Erin McKenna) creates sweets that are vegan-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free since she was found to have wheat and dairy allergies in 2004. So, I have a cookbook that tells me how to make (mainly) sugar-free delicious cupcakes (among other things). I would have had Erin sign the book, but they said she was in LA at the moment....I did get a red velvet cupcake.

This cupcake was delicious, and to know that it was probably half the calories of the others made it that much better :)

Believe me, after all this I think I'm cupcaked out for awhile.

Oh, and the winner is....

You haven't had a true cupcake until you have tried any of their decadent cupcakes with FUDGE icing! Yep, that did it.

Part 9: Chapels & Cathedrals

New York has some of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen (including pictures). There is something a breath-taking church standing in the midst of all those tall buildings.

This chapel below has a special story. It's the only thing that stood on 9/11- it's right across from where the towers stood. We actually bought Ryder a book about it, and it tells how firemen, policemen, etc. actually used this chapel to get water and rest in between running in the buildings.

Part 8: Broadway & Sights

We saw the Broadway play "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" starring Harry Connick, Jr. I liked the play, there were a few surprises we weren't expecting, but overall- I loved hearing Harry sing :)

Part 7: 9/11

Now, if seeing this in person doesn't humble you to your core- I don't know what will. They are still working on the Freedom Tower, which you can see, but the memorial will take your breath away. The memorial is two huge fountains that stand in the footprints of the two towers- the fountains are almost an acre. Around each fountain are the names of those who died (around 3000). Of course we just happened to walk up on the wall that listed all the first responders- the NYFD, that was an eerie feeling to see the ladder, engine, and battalions these men worked for. I couldn't tell you how many names I saw that had the woman's name listed and then "and her unborn baby" after it... I wish everyone could see this in person.

Part 6: Museum & Central Park

Here is the Museum of Natural History. I'm sure you notice I only took pics of things I recognize from The Night at the Museum, and would you believe this? Teddy Roosevelt's statue doesn't exist in the museum. There's just the one that's outside! After the museum, we walked through Central Park- which is beautiful!!

Part 5: Empire & Lady Liberty

Of course these two landmarks are no where near each other, but I just thought I would lump them together. We went to the Empire State Building at night (which I definitely recommend), and we went to the Statue of Liberty when it was rainy (don't really recommend). Here ya go!

Part 3: On Top of The Rock

These are taken from on top of the Rockefeller Center, or the "Rock," as it's more popularly known. It amazes me that Central Park is just right smack in the middle of those buildings...and it's beautiful (you'll see, don't you remember going there with us?) :)

Part 2: Radio City, NBC, & Rockefeller

Here was our first day (the day we flew in). We went to see Radio City, took the tour at NBC, and saw the ice skating at Rockefeller. Now, let me tell you, I am taking a photography class so I tried to get off automatic on some shots. I'm experimenting with my ISO, aperture, & shutter speed, so just warning you if some shots look weird.... I'm learning! But hey, on the upside- there are a few I'm pretty proud of that I did completely manually! When I've put the pics on here, I'll put them on the photography tab with what numbers I used (it helps me to see what others use as far as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, so I can copy them).

Tuesday morning the hubby and I flew to NYC- we went for a little getaway before Aaron leaves for Benning. It was hard leaving Ryder, but I was glad he didn't go with it being so cold, plus all the walking, flying, etc. We got back Friday evening. We had a blast and I took lots of pictures. I'm going to be doing a couple of posts, so I'm pretty sure you will feel like you have been there (if you never have) once I'm done, and if you have been there- well, I think you will feel like you were on the trip with us this past week :)

Love of Reading

A few weeks ago at church, I received one of the greatest compliments I have ever gotten referring to Ryder. A mom (of 3 kids) who had the nursery that week, asked me if I read to Ryder a lot, she said she could tell- she read him a book and he stayed with her the whole time, when most of the other kids would of course jump down and run off. This made me so happy- reading is one of my greatest passions and if I could by any chance instill that on Ryder, I know I have to be doing something right. My grandparents, my dad's parents, were both teachers for many, many years, and Grana would always tell me "You better be reading to him!" It's never too early to read to a baby, and I think it's very important for a baby to be read to. I read to Ryder every night. We are too the point that he picks out the books he wants me to read, then he jumps in my lap, and he loves it!

There are books he loves, which I would have never heard about this author if he hadn't gotten one of these books a long time ago. They are Karen Katz books, and many of her's are lift-the-flap books.

Because of this book, Ryder can point to the baby's nose, eyes, etc. all he learned through a book. He loves lifting the flap to see what's behind it. Of course I have gotten like 6 more of her books (you can find them at Buy Buy Baby, Marshalls, Babies R Us, etc.). I hope and pray that this learning through reading will stay with him....it makes me so happy :) Of course his favorite book is his Bible, which we also read from every night...this is definitely one thing I'm glad he got from me....

Speaking of reading- if you haven't, you have GOT to read The Hunger Games!! Allow yourself some time, because you will not want to put them down!

First Goal!

Well, most of y'all keep or have kept up with this blog about the Green family, I think I have even mentioned it before. They had a baby who had Trisomy 13, which is incapable with life. To bring the story a little more personal, I found out about this family only because my (2nd) cousin, Jeannie, is actually experiencing the same thing. And she actually had a link to another blog, whom is another family she has met, also going through the same thing. The other two families have already experienced the loss; however, Jeannie is nearing the end of her pregnancy.

You know, since I have heard about what Jeannie is going through, there is not a day that goes by that I don't think and pray about her, Seth (her hubby), and Cam (their toddler). I was actually just folding laundry and watching a "Baby Story" on TLC (nap time), and my heart just broke. I know God handpicks these women to be able to faithfully carry a gift from Him, only to give the gift back- all the while giving Him all of the glory. A woman that can go through that and not slip in her faith, is a woman that truly should be honored. These women are used as examples of what it means to go through the valley, knowing they are carrying a baby that more than likely will not live to be a week old.

Thinking about it today, thousands of questions came in my mind. I wonder if I was in the same situation, would I make a nursery? If not, where would the baby sleep when he/she came home? Would I hold him/her when she/he took their last breath? Yes, I know yes to that one. How do you prepare for the loss, before the birth has even happened?

I read all of these blogs, somewhat because I'm nosy, but mostly because I'm intrigued of the faith these women have and can have when dealing of something of this magnitude. Cam will always have a little brother named Porter, Jeannie and Seth will always have a second son, though he will reside in Heaven.

I'm sharing all of this because it does break my heart, though I know God gives these families His grace, and His mercy, I know He renews their strength each and every day when they awake and immediately think about their loss, or soon-to-be-loss. And the thing is, these families will tell you they don't want you to feel sorry for them.

I hope you pray, or will now begin praying for these families, though you may just know them through the internet- each has a journey that we can learn something from- read their stories and pray for them, not for the healing of their precious gift, but that they can faithfully hand back their perfect, perfect baby with all of the defects and still continue through life praising His wonderful, almighty name.

Imagine It!

Today we took Ryder to the Imagine It! Children's Museum in Atlanta. I think he had fun. It was kinda hitting nap time, so he wouldn't sit during story time, but he LOVED the fishing... (of course).

Before we went in, we ate at Johnny Rockets down the street. Here's Ry and daddy sharing a milkshake. I feel like the caption should be "Having a kid means always having someone to sip on the other straw," but you know, when Ryder turns 16 this may not be the case...

Military Ball

Saturday night Aaron took me to a Military Ball held in Macon. It was a fun little getaway, and something different to be able to dress up. Unfortunately, here's the only picture we took (via iPhone) by the way. Here's my handsome soldier who will be leaving in a few weeks for Fort Benning for 6 months. Along with this little getaway, we also have one more little getaway next week before he leaves. I'm SO excited!

He is Enough

I have done a fair share of Beth Moore Bible studies, in which I absolutely love all of them. I love the way Beth describes the scripture, how she goes in detail, and goes in-depth with the Word. God has definitely given her a gift. Well, right now I'm doing James:

Let me tell you, I could not have done a better Bible study to talk to me after going through what we did this past summer than James. I thank you, Tori for telling me about it! And for letting me know that you can go to Lifeway's website and download the video (or audio) sessions for personal use, so you aren't giving up the videos just because you aren't able to participate in a group session at the time. The sessions can be downloaded for $4.99.

Here is a passage from Beth I wanted to share:

"Let Jesus lighten your burden until you float to the top, youth renewed, heart restored. He is enough. Let me say that again: He is enough. When you need more, you will have more. When your woes are great, His grace is greater. When our sins are vast, His mercy is deep. We cannot exceed Him. We cannot outrun Him."

I would bold the whole passage, but you get the point. Everyime I read this, I get chills. I think Beth has a gift of saying things the way she does, but more than that- much, much more, is the truth she speaks. No matter what we are going through, His grace is sufficient, His grace covers our wounds so nothing shows but His mercy. He alone knows exactly what we need, when we need it. I'm learning everyday to trust in His timing, trust that He knows my needs and can seperate them from my wants, and then hand me what He knows is best. Oh... how I love my Lord...

Organization Epiphany

I have recently come to the realization that I am not organized. Not. One. Single. Bit. How did I just realize this you ask.... well, simple. I didn't want to face it. Yet, thinking I was fairly organized, I would go to open any drawer, any closet, any cabinet.... and I always thought it was normal to have stuff fall out. I always thought it was normal to put something somewhere one day, and not be able to find it the next. Evidently, it's not. So, will I work on this in 2012? Has it become an added-in resolution? I'm not counting on it. Maybe I should go to Organization Anoymous meeting or something, but I don't have any real expectations of this changing. That said- my hard-working hubby comes to the rescue a lot where this issue is concerned. See, we have this water heater closet. I don't really know the purpose, because it's big enough to have shelves in it- though I guess it stores the water heater. And what I have been doing in this particular closet over the last 4 years? Yep- craming anything and everything I can into it. Well, the other day, hubby said no- I'm making shelves and we are cleaning it out and getting organized. What?! He went and got wood after his shift at the fire station and was working on it the other morning before I even got out of bed. I guess now, you could say it's kinda like a walk-in pantry/storage closet (we cleared out some food from the kitchen pantry). So- here's a little shout-out to the hubs... I know I'm not organized, and I'm pretty sure that won't change... but thanks for continually trying to get me there & the closet it amazing!

In other news- I AM doing one of my resolutions and I signed up for a photography class!! Eek!

Project 366

I'm attempting to do project 366- where you take a pic everyday. Of course because I am definitely NOT the MOST organized person in the world, we'll see if I can keep up with this and keep up with what pics were taken when. I forgot the first two days (yea, great start I know)...and don't worry- you probably won't see all of the pics. I feel as though I started out taking a lot last year, and then kinda dwindled down unless Ryder did something new.... so I wanted to capture the not-so-new-everyday-moments, also.... so here's my start!

Pop of Color

Ok, so as some of you may remember- I redid my kitchen from an italian theme to.... well, just yellow, red, and such. Well, a few months ago I saw a pin on what else? Pinterest that had their pantry door painted blue (everything else was white). I loved it! It was just a little pop of color in the kitchen. So of course, I'm thinking why didn't I think of that? So, to make a long story short, the hubby actually got on board (which there are many of my "creative" ideas he says no to). And this is what happened- we did a pale yellow! Of course, these are from Christmas, but you get the idea! i highly recommend it, it kinda makes me smile everytime I go to get something out of it!

Oh, and yes- I did the above-the-door saying with my Silhouette! How I love that machine....

Speaking of the Silhouette, I also did this for Ryder's "bird" bathroom...

Resolutions for Every Day

Well, I have kinda been hesitant on making any new year resolutions.... mainly because most of the things we say, we should be working on anytime of the year. Though, I believe that's part of being "human," to always seek improvement, fail, and then keep seeking improvement (just why do you think we start diets 18 times a year...and then restart them...). So anyways, I did make a few resolutions-12 in fact, (I thought that was appropriate) just to throw out there (though like I said- things I should always be working on). So, here we go:

1. To get to know HIM better, to read more of the scripture, to MEMORIZE more of the scripture, and to seek HIM in everything I do

2. To be a better wife- to listen to my husband and keep my lips closed more, to support him in everything he does, though I may not understand, to love him unconditionally and show that more

3. To be a better mother- to put things off around the house to play with my son, to read him a book AND from the Bible every night, to continue to pray with him every night...and I suppose we will be potty training this year :)

4. To be a better sister, daughter, niece, granddaughter- to pray daily for my family, and to be a better example of the light I carry from God

5. To finish my MASTERS!! I hope to graduate before the summer, and will be SO relieved when I do! I'm getting my MAT (early childhood teaching certification and masters) through this school, and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of doing the same.

6. To get in better shape (I think this is everyone's). Because of little one, it's harder to jump up and go to the gym, but I have been very diligent in working out with Jillian Michaels- the 30 day shred, and Ripped in 30. I love the videos, and only 20 minutes a day!

7. To be more creative! I got a beautiful sewing machine for Christmas, so as soon as school work dies down- I can't wait to start sewing everything I find on Pinterest!

8. To work on my patience... and that goes for expanding our family and seeking what God has in store for us. There's so much I want to do... sometimes I dream about jumping on a plane to go to Haiti, or Kenya and tell them about Jesus. I pray that God can use us where He sees fit and we will be willing. "...For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required..." Luke 12:48

9. To be more money conscience. I recently made my own detergent (haven't tried it out yet), so we could spend that money on something else, and to work on for being grateful for what I have and what I can create, besides what I can buy or what I think I need (but really want).

10. To work on my photography...I love taking pics and would LOVE to attend a class this year to better those skills (when you know, some extra time magically appears :) Photography is definitely a hobby I would just simply like to learn more about and get better at it.

11. To read more...and maybe even write a little something! I went to college for English and Mass Communications, and I have always dreamed about writing a book, maybe a novel? Ha- this may be more of a dream rather than a resolution

12. To be a better friend- to put others before me. Jesus first, others second, and then myself. This is probably the ultimate resolution, and the ultimate thing we should always be working on...

Well, we had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by the presence of our Jesus, and our family. Here are some pics of Ryder's 2nd Christmas. It was so much fun to see him react to his presents. The car, which is probably his fav, was from grandma and grandpa.

I felt so blessed today. I was so excited that Christmas was on a Sunday, because it seemed so fitting to go to church to worship Him on His birthday! As I was surrounded by a wonderful family today, I couldn't help but think of all of those hurting and those who have lost someone in the past year. From a close friend who recently lost her unborn baby girl at 20 weeks to my cousin who is preparing to lose her baby boy at any time due to Trisomy 13 to this family, whom I have never met, but feel like I have a connection to because of Jeannie- my cousin. People are hurting, but the only way I know to get through is to know God has a purpose, a better (for lack of a better word) purpose then we could ever make for ourselves. So, that's what we have to think upon. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and nestle with your family tonight in the sweet, gentle presence of that Almighty Birthday Boy...

Little Projects

So, as I am now mainly at home (unless subbing), I have done some revamping to the house. This letter I did for the office mirror, and got the idea from this blog. After Christmas, I think I want to do a bigger letter and put it in the living room.

This idea came from Pinterest. It was a mirror I got from Goodwill a long time ago. I took the mirror out, and spray painted the frame (it was gold), and interwined twine (ha) behind it. I'm notorious for getting all my long necklaces all tangled, so maybe this will help.

Here's my first burlap wreath. It's just a small straw wreath (from dollar store), and I just cut strips and tied knots around the wreath with three different colors of burlap (from Hob Lob). This I put in the bathroom because I kinda redid the guest bathroom.

This was from Goodwill. I spray painted it, and then put strips of burlap in it that were left over from the wreath, maybe to look like a bird's nest?? This was also for the bathroom update.

And what's a bird cage without a bird? And because I have the Silhouette, the little bathroom update from seashells to burlap and birds- didn't cost anything!

Oh! One more thing....I turned 27 over the weekend, and Grandmama gave me this little beauty:

As you recall this post of Molly & Matt being my first maternity shoot, well, they obviously had their baby. They had a beautiful, sweet, little baby girl named Makayla. I was able to snap a few newborn pics (well she was about 2 weeks old, but still). I had to be quick, because let's just say she would rather not be photographed that particular day.

Christmas cards have been ordered!!! I just wanted to tell someone (mainly, you), because if you know how I'm indecisive I am- you will know this is a huge feat for me!! BUT, I am not going to post the pic I used, I will, however, post the runner-up and some pics of our Christmas decorations.

I hope to do his "art" every year, I think it will be fun to see how his feet and hands grow. I framed them and put them on a shelf in the living room.

I was excited to just decorate with what Ryder could play with, like all shatter-proof ornaments (instead of my usual fireman theme), and a this Little People Nativity Scene from Target that he can play with....so I'm not worried when he goes playing in the living room. He has been sick, so say a little prayer for him! Mommy is ready for him to be all better!

Well, now I'm done with student teaching and am subbing now, I have a little bit of time to finally read!! And yes, I'm a huge reader, and am very excited about finally being able to have time to use my Kindle. I'm always very picky about what I read. I like my author to be challenging, and usually somewhat complex. I cannot read people like Nicholas Sparks for that matter. So, when I stumbled on these list of books, I was very happy. See, I love when someone recommends a book to me, thus, I thought I would recommend some books to you. And I do know that your style for reading may be far different than mine, but with that said- you HAVE to read these books. They are Christian, and they are non-fiction for the most part. Unfortunately, I am weary about reading any Christian authors, because like I said- I don't like simple authors, but I think you will find these books very, very good. I feel like I owe it to the authors to pass on the recommendations.

This book will blow your mind as you read about a 4 year old's encounter with Jesus.

Same Kind of Different As Me    Ron Hall & Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent
This book is a must read if I have EVER read one.....and I have read a lot....

What Difference Do It Make?   Ron Hall & Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent
This book is somewhat of a sequel to the previous one.   It's one of the most inspirational books ever.

I do like Mitch Albom (usually a quick, but refreshing read).

Running under the Lights

Saturday, I ran my first 5K! A group of us went to Lake Lanier to run under the Christmas Lights at dark. It was a very neat run, if you ever get the chance, I would highly recommend it! The quality of the pics aren't that great (from a cell phone), but here are a few!

This weekend we did our traditional weekend in the North Ga mountains. It means a lot to us, since you know- it's where I kinda met the hubby. SO, here are pics from Amicalola Lodge, Bert's Pumpkin Patch, and the good ol' NGCSU campus. Yep, it was on that drill field Aaron saw me from across the distance and knew he would make me his wife :) Don't worry, I had Ryder trying on some Army shirts in the bookstore...

For Fall Break we went to Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. We went to the beach, played in the pool, went to Goodnight Story (we wore our pjs while they read us stories and had cookies and milk), went to the campfire, rode bikes, and best of all- had some great fam time!!

So, as I'm sitting here on Labor Day and runny-nose baby is asleep I figured I would blog! And also, so Kendall will stop bugging me ;) By the way, has anyone reached their pic "limit" on their blog, where it asks you to pay? Because that is where I am, and of course I'm not paying, and I don't won't all boring posts without pics, so ? I'm not sure what to do about that. But anyhow- I can type-

This past weekend, Aaron and I took a night away in Young Harris, Ga for our anniversary celebration. Our anniversary isn't until the 8th, but this worked out, so we went. It was so quiet and peaceful, and it took us back to when we first met (literally and mentally). We stopped by at the North Ga outlets and did a little shopping, and then went up through Dahlonega, Cleveland, and Blairsville until we hit our resort. See, when we were dating (both going to NGCSU) we would NOT cut class, but rather we thought we could learn more from rejuvenating our minds by driving through the mountains, thus- the mountain drives, kinda our thing. The resort sits on Lake Chatuge, where we got to see a Wake Boarding contest on the lake- which was pretty cool if you have never seen one. We ate dinner at The Oaks, and then had smores by the campfire by the lake (that was my fav because I LOVE smores)!! Sunday, we slept late, checked out, and rode around the mountains (actually went to some festival in Blairsville that was like a mini Goldrush). It was nice to get away though, and just to be able to narrow life back to eachother for a few hours.

School is going amazing! I do get overwhelmed with everything I have to do for that school, then my school, then my teacher work sample portfolio that I'm supposed to be working on alongside of all of this, but it's well worth it. Of course, I can only do any of this with the support of my fam with taking care of Ryder and knowing I have a lot to do (thanks, fam)!.

Ry is doing good- he's walking....well when he wants. He can def take some good steps, but then he knows it's quicker to crawl. He has a cold (or maybe allergies) right now, so he's coughing with a runny nose :( But maybe for not too much longer.

So, maybe I'll try to get better with blogging.....just have to figure out the pic thing. I hope you have/had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

blurb update

So, I thought I would give a little shout-out-update blurb (because I'm sitting here at the kitchen table watching Aaron eat). I started student teaching Monday with preplanning, and the kids came Thursday. Let me say, when I get past the getting up in the morning and leaving Ryder- I LOVE it! I kinda feel like I'm going back to work from maternity leave, but after I get over that feeling, and after I see the kids- it's wonderful! I'm in second grade, and I couldn't have asked for a better "host" teacher. The school itself (a local Christian school), is amazing- to be in a workplace that starts the day off in devotionals and prayer, and asks the students if they brought their Bible, and just the overall atmosphere of uplifting HIS glorious name makes me want to tear up from happiness. I love knowing God is using me in a place where we can exalt His name, and more than that- make sure we exalt His name. I feel very blessed :) So, anyways- once I get over the "leaving my baby" thing again, and over the getting up early thing- I'll be set :)

These little update blurbs are probably all you'll be getting out of my crazy life in the 12 weeks to come.....but I am still alive!

Ryder got his present from grandma and grandpa a little early. They gave him a castle for his playroom!

This was on the morning of his actual birthday (Friday). Aunt Meg and grandma brought over balloons that morning!

That night we went to Cracker Barrel, where he got his first kids meal! This was afterwards, when we had cake back at the house!

Here's where the party starts! Above I had guests sign a scrapbook paper.....

We rented a red and white tent for the backyard. I had sweets, cupcakes, and ice cream (and PLENTY of water and lemonade). It was HOT, but I think everyone had fun (I hope!)

The Bible Book

So about a week ago I finished the devotional I was doing, and I was wondering what should I do next. Well, just so happens that around that time, our Pastor was preaching on devotionals and the correct way to do them, because as we all know- turning the Bible to a place and reading a chapter does not constitute as a true devotional when you can't tell someone what you read and what it meant the next day. Thus, he told us how you should start reading either in Genesis or Matthew, because the reading makes so much more reading in context. And while reading, you should keep a notebook and answer these three questions:

1. What is the writer telling me?
2. How does it apply to my life?
3. Is there anything I don't understand?

And if there is anything you don't understand, then research or ask someone! There's no point in not understanding what you are reading. SO, lo and behold I began this process the other day... I'm almost done with Genesis (remember however much you can read a day is fine, it's not quantity, but quality). Anyways, here are some things I have learned....I mean seriously, I have to make myself stop reading because it's addicting! These people are insane....I've grown up knowing all the stories, but there are details I never knew- ok for instance:

- Part of Cain's punishment for killing Abel was to be a beggar yes, but also NO man could kill Cain to put him out of his misery (that was from God)
- Lemech (Noah's father) was the first man to ruin the sanctity of marriage by having two wives
- Noah cursed his own grandson because his son (the grandson's father) saw Noah drunk and naked
- Lot gets himself kidnapped, but Abram rescues him
- Lot's two daughters got him drunk and "knew" him because they wanted to preserve their dad's seed (ew)
- Abraham took another wife after Sarah died (I never knew that)
- Rachel steals from her father and when her father is searching the camp, Rachel goes into the "red" tent and "says" she is having woman issues (red tent for those menstruating FYI)- when all along she is sitting on the images! Which brings up, the novel, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant is Dinah's story (the only girl born to Jacob out of tons of brothers, she was raped by a prince- great book and a great look into perhaps what happened in Jacob's family)
- Judah's daughter-in-law (Jacob's son) tricked him and he "knew" her (because he thought she was a harlot), and she had twins, and as the first twin was coming out (because it's SO crucial who gets the birthright), the nurse put a bracelet on him, but then the hand went back in, and the other brother came out first instead.....so yea, talk about confusion.

See, the Bible can be as "R rated" and entertaining as any movie, but yet- it's so wonderful to read the stories of God, and the people of God! If you have never read the Bible like a book, try it! Because, well....it is THE book!

So, it has been said that I redo the house when Aaron goes away....well, I'm not saying that is true- but I LOVE change! The valances we had we've had from our apartment and I was ready for a refreshing look! So, with grandma's help (lots of help), I made my first set of valances for the living room and kitchen. I wish I had taken before pics, but I didn't- a lot of my stuff is black and red, so I threw in yellow for color. The pics aren't great, I guess it's about to storm outside?? Anyways, I'm proud of them, just don't look too closely at any hem lines....

We put up this pendant light too (was a florescent light)....my daddy is so handy, I really wish I could learn to do stuff like that, but let's face it- what would take me 3 hours would take him 5 minutes. :)

I like it.....and evidently this baby is telling me no more pics....

So, I thought when I was a stay at home mom I would actually blog more often...that is definitely not the case. If I sit in front of the computer, it's usually to do school work, and then of course there is little man that needs attention after my school work. SO, anyways I just thought I would say hey! I'm still here and doing well!! I'm planning my baby's one year birthday party, and SOO excited. I'm really, really trying not to go overboard, but I just find the cutest stuff on Etsy! I've actually been going to the gym this week! Crazy, but it feels oh so good! I am still going to the OB to draw blood....I keep thinking this week is the last week and then they call and say we have to do it again. I had it done again today, so pray for a 0! I'm just sick of drawing blood. I start student teaching in August, and get to help with planning on August 1st- eek, I'm excited, but it's going to be a change in the Holt household!

I'm also getting so "refreshed" in the Lord. I love my morning God times and I feel like I can't get enough. I do think having a new pastor has a lot to do with that. I love change, and he brings in a fresh air with his preaching. We had two people saved last Sunday, and I think it's just a glimpse of what God has in store for our church!

Well, that's about it! I guess when I'm at home, I just feel like I don't have too much worth writing about, but don't worry- I'm still reading your blog- well, during naps, that is :)

What I'm Lovin' Thursday

ok- it's been like a year since I wrote this post, but I just felt like I wanted to today!

I'm lovin' that I'm so blessed and happy. I LOVE staying home with Ryder more than anything. We have our routine (well, usually), I do my God time, drink coffee, school work, work-out (finally, bringing Jillian back in my life), and spending time with Ryder in between all of those things. Oh, and did I mention I'm making his baby food now? I got the Baby Bullet, and LOVE it!

I'm lovin' that God is in control no matter what. At church last night, a missionary said that "We serve a good God, not because we serve Him during good times, but because He's a good God." And he said that just having mentioned that that he was back in the states because his son was born with a cleft lip and cleft pallet. God knew what He was doing, and He knows what He is doing in our lives. So- just an update- the OB is following my HCG level down, which is dropping well, and it looks like I won't have to have a D & C. So, I think that is good news, just a few more draws before it gets back to 0.

I'm lovin' that we have a new PASTOR at church! It gave me chills last night to write "PASTOR Tony" in my Bible last night. It's so strange, and we weren't even without a Pastor all that long. He is one of the best preachers I have ever heard, and I can't wait to see how God uses the church. It's weird, though, you know? Our last Pastor watched me grow up, and I think it's definitely an adjustment to have a man that doesn't know anything about you or your family, however, I know it takes time to achieve a closeness and I'm so excited about seeing what he does with the church in the meantime!

I'm lovin' that Ryder will be ONE YEAR old next month....well not really.... I'm not sure if I'm lovin' that or not. Let's just say SOMEONE wouldn't sleep last night, so I was up until 2am looking at invitations. I've already got some awesome ideas and ahh....I can't wait!

Life is definitely not perfect- just look at what we just went through, but I'm so happy where I am right now. I do start student teaching in Aug. at YACS! Eek! K- now I'm going getting out of the house, because Lanie Beth, you have made me want to update my living room and kitchen!! ;)

Seeing Daddy at the Fire Station

Last Friday, we went to go see daddy at the fire station....and Uncle Matthew....and "Uncle" John....and Grandpa- well anyways, we visited a lot of stations in Gwinnett (along with the Mall). I can't believe next month I'll have a ONE YEAR OLD! Wow.....ok, I hope you having a great week! Enjoy the pics!

Heavy Heart

I thank all of y'all for the sweet, sweet comments, text messages, and prayers- whether you know it or not- we felt your prayers and God's arms wrap around us last night when we got the bad news...

A few hours after I wrote the post, I decided I wanted an ultrasound done to check on the baby. The OB sent me to the ER. So, I waited for Aaron to get home from painting and he took me. Of course we spent hours and hours there (who doesn't at the ER?) But I'm glad we went. They did an ultrasound and couldn't find a fetal heartbeat when there was one there days before. I miscarried. I don't think I've ever suffered a loss of someone I was close to...until now. I guess it's one of those things you see it happen to so many people, but you never think it can happen to you. After the hospital (it was like 10:30pm), we went straight to my mom's house to get Ryder. I"m glad we did. Though, we are heartbroken and devastated, I can look up right at this moment and see my precious baby boy grinning from ear to ear at me....I will concentrate on that right now.

I know y'all will understand if I don't respond quickly to any messages, I don't feel like talking too much right now. We'll have to follow up with the OB, and go from there.

We will praise and uplift God during this loss:

OK. Well I have thought about writing a post, and didn't want to for awhile....but for whatever reason, after doing my God & I time, I want to. I want to tell you what's going on, maybe you can pray for us, maybe this will help you, and maybe I'm just going to vent because I know I'm not the first to go through some of this:

(gulp) Here it goes- in order:

A few weeks ago, I was shopping with mom and grandma and I started feeling funny....
I went home (Aaron was at the station for a 48) and I took a pregnancy test....
It was POSITIVE!
I called Aaron and we told my fam two days after that, BUT I'll come back to that in a sec-

The week before the beach I noticed my gland in my neck was swollen, kinda odd because it wasn't hurting when I swallowed or inside. I went to the doc that Saturday before we left and she figured an infection and got some antibiotics. Well, at the beach it spread all the way down to my collarbone- it was/is very painful. It hurts to turn my head or really, really hurts to pick up my head from lying down. I went back when we got home from the beach and was sent to the hospital for an ultrasound on my neck (that was all they could do since I was pregnant), and thank the Lord, they didn't see any abscess, BUT didn't know what was causing this. The doctor diagnosed me with Lymphadenitis. So, up to speed- I had a follow-up yesterday and we think a new med is helping, but actually the muscle part is hurting a lot more, oh and if it doesn't get better I have to go the hospital for an IV (yay). This is probably the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.

But meanwhile, I go to the OB and they do an ultrasound, but still really early, so she couldn't accurately measure anything. They took my blood count and tell me to go back the next week. In between the ultrasounds, I start bleeding. First it was spotting, and now it's a good bit. I have been bleeding for 7 days now, I called the OB on Tuesday (since Monday was a holiday), and we did another ultrasound and the baby was fine. On Tuesday I was 6 weeks, 1 day, we heard the heartbeat and my due date is Jan. 23rd. And then they checked the bleeding and said it was coming from my cervix (from what I gather that's better than uterus), BUT if the bleeding doesn't stop then, well I'm sure you can finish that sentence. It's a 50/50 chance right now. Today is Thursday and I'm still bleeding. I'm on pelvic rest and not able to lift anything...yes, that includes my baby boy :(

I tell you all of this for your prayers, I know many women have gone through this, and I know I won't be the last (as for the throat thing- that's like a painful, agonizing freak thing, and I wish it would go away).

God told me this in my time with Him this morning and it completely talked to me:

"If we are Christians, you and I will never enter a wilderness experience without the presence of God's spirit...Sometimes life isn't working for us because God is stirring a holy dissatisfaction. He wants us to want Him more. He allows and even creates wilderness places in our lives to shake us from our apathies and lukewarm conditions. Why? Because God created us for satisfaction, and He knows we are most happy when we are most satisfied by Him"

I don't know why I want to post all this on my blog, only God knows what's going to happen. Maybe God is using me for something, maybe not- but He has a reason for this- always does.

I can't trace His hand at this moment, but I'm fully and deeply trusting His heart...

We had a wonderful time in St. George last week. It was Ryder's first time to the beach! Here's what he pretty much did every day:

Last Sunday, a friend preached (we are still looking for a pastor), and he, with his group, sang a song that brought tears rolling down my cheeks. It's called I Have Been Blessed and here are the lyrics:

Wow. Just think about that for a minute. Whether you know it or not, we are blessed in so many ways. Though we don't have a preacher right this minute, we are blessed as a church to still be united, and hey- we get to hear different preachers every Sunday! I'm blessed with the mom and dad that raised me in the hands of the Lord, along with always food on the table- see, these are more obvious ways, but let me tell you about one of the blessings that I have had to look for lately:

Yes, we are at the beach now (I know, that itself is definitely a blessing to be able to enjoy a week away next to the ocean with those I love most), but a huge blessing in disguise was before we left. About two weeks ago, we came home from the Braves game. It was late and I let me parents go ahead and take Ryder home (good thing I did). I went into our bathroom and got my toothbrush, and then I heard it....next to me in Aaron's sink was a bat. Yes, an ugly, horrible bat just sitting there like he wanted toothpaste. I screamed, and of course there was another one hanging from the vent in the living room.....whew....that was a hard couple of days. I honestly felt like someone (the house) had betrayed me in making me feel safe. I really did not want to be in my house, and my heart still skips a beat when I walk in the room before I have a chance to look in the all the sinks and look at the vents. But you know what? The bats are gone (we think), and we were able to get an insurance claim on it. So the little bats actually were a blessing (remember, we live on one income now), and now the house gets to be painted! And you know what? I found out that I'm student teaching at Young American Christian School in the fall. A God-fearing school that I would LOVE to teach at someday. He may work in odd ways sometimes, but I know He is working in my life. I know I'm in His will, because He has opened the doors to a school I wasn't sure would let me teach there (being private). And look how He is taking care of us financially- yep with nasty, little animals. My God amazes me. I'm sitting here looking over the majestic ocean of His, and being surrounded by my family- I can't help but praise Him- for all He has done, and all He is going to do.

Tracing & Trusting

For whatever reason, I got up really early this morning (and please consider I virtually got no sleep last night between Ryder, who likes to wake up now in the middle of the night, and with Aaron who was up all night throwing up), but anyways I woke up wide awake. I nursed Ryder and laid him beside Aaron, while I got up craving some God time. Let me tell you, God always delivers. I don't know if it was the fact I could be alone (Aaron works at the station, and if not there doing overtime, he's painting, so unless I take Ry to mom's- he's with me), or the fact that it was the quietness of the morning and for some reason I wasn't tired at all. I even called and woke my mom up to get a coffee pot out of her basement, because I broke ours the other day, and I guess because I can't have it- I wanted some coffee, sooo badly! So anyhow- getting sidetracked. Here we are on my second week of being a SAHM, or being unemployed- whichever :)

Words can describe how wonderful it is being home, witnessing all of Ryder's little moments, and occasionally being home with Aaron and it's not even a Saturday (which that's rare, too, since he has drill or at the station). You know, we don't know when I will ever get a teaching job, especially in this economy- and well, which is secretly ok with me because I would love to be home with Ryder as much as I can, and perhaps another... But- I think it's slowly seeping in, that- hey- we have to completely trust God right now. No, we aren't rich, yes, we have a truck and house payment, and bills, and two dogs and a baby. Sometimes I wonder if what I did was crazy, but I know that we have to trust in Him all the more, and that finds me content. We don't have a lot of money- but I do know, that I would rather be happy and poor, then rich and unhappy. I would rather see my baby boy do his new things like smile really big while closing his eyes, or crawling as fast as he can to pull up on the couch, then be at a desk and hear all of those things from my mom.

Wow, a woman at church sings this, though she hasn't in a long time. I love this song. And as God whispered these words to me this morning, I know without a shadow of a doubt I was supposed to quit, and I know without a shadow of a doubt- that I'm in God's will. He has given me this passion, and this burden to teach children. I would love to teach at our Christian school nearby- but you know what? I'm thinking I could do more good teaching to a sea of students that I know are lost, and need my Saviour. I know God could use me anywhere, and anywhere is where I'll gladly teach- but my heart breaks for some of those children at public schools....

So, I will continue to coupon (which so happy so many have gotten into), I now make Ryder's baby food, I will continue to nurse, and do whatever I can for the finances of the family (it's all kinda fun, actually). And well... we will see where God leads us.

When I look at our bank account, I may have trouble tracing that mighty, all-powerful hand of His, but I know, I KNOW I'm trusting that loving, peaceful heart...

9 Months & Relay for LIFE!

Friday we had Ryder's 9 month appt (he was exactly 9 months) & here are the stats:

Weight- 18 lbs and 10 oz (25th percentile)

Height- 28 inches (50th percentile)

Head- 45 1/2 cm (75th percentile)

He is crawling

He is pulling on stuff

He is walking when you hold his hands

Ah- so much more, but he is becoming a little boy!! :( I miss my baby!

I had so much fun at Newton County's Relay for Life. "Ms" Joy took Ryder around and he came back with this on his hat!

Here we are walking the Survivor Lap with Grandma. I couldn't tell you what this means to me. Aaron and I were talking and he said it's hard to believe, that a year ago we wouldn't even THINK of Grandma having cancer, but PRAISE His MIGHTY HAND, that is she walking that Survivor Lap!

I'm so glad my sis and her b/f got involved. I kinda like having her home, so she can do all things like these with me!

Day 3

Well, today is day 3 at being at home. I'm not sure it's quite sunk it, yet. I kinda feel like I'm just off for the week. Monday, I did upteen loads of laundry, yesterday I went couponing (had a very successful trip at both CVS and Publix, I give up on Walgreens because they NEVER have anything in stock) and organized my coupon binder (which took hours because I was getting very lazy with it when working), and today- well school work and hanging out with the little man. I LOVE being home during the day. Ryder and I take walks, and straighten up the house, and get to spend time together, time I have been craving. Last night, I stayed up until midnight because I was hoping he would wake up and want to get in bed with me, but he didn't. We also had some firsts last night! I have him a bath, brushed his two teeth for the first time (which he loved), and then I sat him on the potty for a minute. When I picked him up- he had peed in it!! I had to leave it in there for daddy to see today! We have paid off my car, too!

We are trying to find the routine, which so far is- Ryder wakes up about 7:30, and I get him, change his diaper, and feed him- and then he takes a little nap with me in our bed, and then we get up about 9:30am (whew- I know- sooo nice). My body doesn't know how to handle all this sleep. We then eat breakfast, play, and then lunch, and then nap (which is when I try to do school work).

He will be 9 months on Friday, and we have his appt. that day, also. I'm anxious to see how much he weighs! Well, I must go and take our walk before the storms roll in! Have a great day!

Easter

I think I would say that this was the best Easter ever! Of course we started the Resurrection morning at church-

Ryder got lots of things from the Easter bunny (mainly stuff to play with at the beach)

He got his first cell phone!!! It has a recording from his grandfather on the cell phone! He picks it up when it's ringing, and it's always grandaddy! I don't guess he's giving anyone else the number...

Don't go over your minutes, son! And no texting while riding your dinosaur around!

Grandma and Grandpa also gave him a new Bible!

I hosted Easter this year for the fam. Here's my dessert spread. Of course I have the cake pops, and then I made carrot cup cakes, and strawberry cake!

Ok- don't laugh. Cake pops are actually a lot harder to make than they look. I was hoping they would look like this:

from the Bakerella's website (I followed her directions). But let me tell you- it's very difficult when you are dipping the cake into the melted chocolate and either the pop falls off, the chocolate becomes hard, etc. And we never could get it to go on smooth. So, thus, here's my first attempt at these babies. And yes, we did have casualties along the way.

A Lovin' Thursday

Well....here it is. A post I have been wanting to write for almost 8 months (yep, if you did the math that's how old Ryder is).

What I'm lovin' is that I. Am. Leaving. Work. Yep. Tomorrow is my last day. But as you know, I am pursuing teaching, and I will get in a classroom before school lets out in May, and then have the summer to do school work and be with Ryder, and then I start student teaching in the fall. Still. This is a huge change for us. We don't know when I will get a teaching job. But I'm so excited to be home with Ryder, to actually clean my house, cook dinners, spend time with Aaron- and not see how much we can get done between 6-11pm at night to only get up in the morning dog-tired, but yes, I suppose this is why I began couponing, and we will be losing my income. SO, we will adapt, and I know God is watching us and will give us whatever we need. I don't want to bore you with the details of giving my notice, etc. but I do believe it was all God. I didn't know when I was going to give my notice, but God dealt the circumstances to tell me it was time. He was in the conversation I had with my boss, and even picking the day. I just picked a random day, and it happens to be exactly 6 months to the day when I came back to work after having Ryder. Kinda weird?? He also spoke to Aaron and I both through prayer, different times. It's so wonderful to have a God that still speaks to us. I'm just so relieved to be able to slow down and breathe. You know, enjoy life with my family. I'm so mentally, and physically tired (as I know many, many full-time, hard-working moms are), and I'm so ready to rest. I know God will take care of us as we make this huge lifestyle change, and I feel so blessed to be able to make it. So, yes, I will keep you posted as I make this huge transition as a SAHM (mom, that means stay-at-home-mom)!

Also, I'm lovin' that my baby is crawling and pulling up! We took a video of him crawling last night and for some reason I can't get it on here! Don't worry- I'll keep trying!

I'm lovin' that this weekend is EASTER! Easter is my fav. My God arose from the dead, and I cannot wait to celebrate that on Sunday! I serve a living God, and for that- well....words can't express. Not to mention the eggs, new outfits, the awesome cake pops, and family get togethers!

So, I believe I’m getting the hang of couponing. Below are two recent receipts I’m pretty proud of:

This is a Publix receipt with spent $70.53 and savings $100.43

**the FIRST time I have saved more than I spent**

This is a CVS receipt with spent $34.59 and savings $93.14

**Note: I received $19 in ECB, so you can subtract that from what I spent, which makes it $15.59**

(If interested) Here’s the how to and what I’ve learned thus far:

I created a binder. I used the categories that the Krazy Coupon Lady made. I get at least one double Sunday AJC, sometimes two. I cut out all the coupons, and put them in their corresponding category in the baseball cards. If you use the same categorizing way that I do, there are 36 categories and it’s ordered in the way a grocery store is (which drives Aaron crazy because they are not in alphabetical order). So, once you do that- look at the sales ad for whatever store or you can look at the two websites mentioned before (Krazy Coupon Lady and Southernsavers), and circle the best deals. The product should be on a good sale, or B1G1 free. I get out the corresponding coupons and put them into a baggie, so I don’t take forever in the store going through my binder. Though, there are some good sales they aren’t advertised, so I would recommend taking in your binder. I hit my stores (Publix, CVS, and Target) once a week. See, the thing about couponing is stocking up. You stock up on it when it’s on sale and you have coupons for it, so when you need it- you don’t have to buy it when it’s not on sale! We actually have milk in the freezer right now! Crazy, I know. We also have a ton of detergent and toothpaste- but it’s good! At least I know if we get an earthquake or something, Aaron and I will have food, and be clean (clothes, too). I have learned that just because it’s on sale, and you have coupons for it- doesn’t mean it’s a good price. That is where the two websites help me by putting a star (or whatever) beside what they think are good deals. My favorite deals are at Publix with the B1G1 free and then I have two coupons for both items, OR at CVS when you use your extra credit bucks (just like money you can only use there)!

Disclaimer: Just know when or if you even start couponing, people will think you work at the store. Every time I go into CVS, I always have a man come up and ask me where something is (picture me having my sales ad in my hand, with my coupons in front of me). One time I had a man think I work there, and when he figured out I didn’t, and what I was doing- he told me he watched the TLC Couponing Show the night before, and was amazing!! He then wanted to know how much I saved and how I was doing it!! Oh- and yes, as hubby and I were at Target when it was closing last weekend, we got in line with the stack of coupons and the people behind us weren’t too happy. SO- moral of the story, be prepared to be asked where things are, be prepared to have someone refer to the TLC show, AND yes, people behind you in the check out line will ~~probably~~ not be too happy with you. Oh well.

A Lovin' Thursday + Update on Coupy

I'm lovin' that it's Thursday today, and almost the weekend!

I'm lovin' that my little man is having fun in his new swing at the grandparents!

I'm lovin that I'm doing what I can for my fam to save money (here's where the update part comes in). I have named my coupon binder "Coupy," because she is HUGE. I, unfortunately, don't have a pic of her.but just take my word on it. So, I went to CVS for my lunch hour today- and (are you ready for this?) I bought a total of $96.06 worth, and spent only $45.88! BUT that's not all- at CVS you get the Extra Care Bucks (they are just like money, but you can only use them at CVS and they expire in a few weeks)- I got $20.97 in ECB (extra care bucks). Therefore, I really only spent $24.91 for a $96.06 purchase! Now, that's not that bad for an amateur, is it?? Now, It takes for-EV-er (remember the movie, Sandlot?) to cut out the coupons. I'm currently getting two doubles of the AJC on Sundays, and then you have to organize them in the baseball cards in their specific sections, and then plan when you are going somewhere (just look at the sales paper or sites like Southersaver or Krazy Coupon Lady), and see if the item is on sale, and you have a coupon for it (either store or manufacturers or both)! So, yes- I'm still learning, but I'm kinda proud of today's couponing adventure! Oh- and I bought:

1 Tide HE Detergent

1 Pampers Cruisers 68 count

4 Oral-B toothbrushes

Everything I bought was on sale and I had a coupon for it AND some had the ECB with them for future purposes! I think I just never really shopped at a drugstore until I started getting in couponing, and I'm kinda shocked! So, anyhow- if you are really good at couponing, and probably could have gotten those things for 42 cents, then just let me be happy! :)

Through the Storms

I, for one, am sooooo thankful that Aaron just happened to be home last night from the station (of course there are many storms where he isn't). Though, I kept waking him up asking him if that was a tornado, and if that was a tornado....and then finally, when Aaron couldn't seem any less concerned, and I'm wide awake, HE started talking to me. The sweet, gentle voice of my Savior calmed my soul, and held my heart as He has done through all of my storms- the windy storm of the lonely, dangerous deployment, the bitter storm of discovering grandmama had breast cancer...He let me know, that I shouldn't be in the least frightened, even if my sleeping hubby wasn't there. I was being held in His tender, loving hands, as His strong, and protective arms surrounded the house through every wind and rain that came my way. There's no safer place to be.

Like He did for the disciples that windy, stormy day on the water a long, long ago, my God can still calm storms....every one of them. And that my friend, is something every child of God should smile about today.

Now, who wouldn't want to be cozied up tight in those arms?

A Lovin' Thursday

Well, with the dreary, non-stop weather, and my sinuses clogging up I have to presevere and be optimistic! So.....here we go (and I can't believe it's already Thursday again)!!

I"m Lovin' that I'm getting together with our amazing teen girls at my house tomorrow night....a great time of fellowship and fun!!

I'm Lovin' that I have nothing planned for Saturday....nothing! This working full-time to come home and do school work, and spend whatever time with the babes and hubs can be overwhelming sometimes! Whew.....so glad!

I'm Lovin' that we have decided to cut back on some things. We've actually shut off cable (everyone's doing it), and we are going to get a Roku. It can stream anything, and in HD. Depending on which on you get, the price isn't bad either! We are trying to decide between Virgin Mobile, or Metro PCS, or neither (currently have iphones)- anyone have any advice on that?? Oh- and P.S. I'm pretty sure my coupon binder weighs more than Ryder....I'll take a pic of it soon. I went couponing last weekend, but still learning....I'll catch you up on that later!

I'm Lovin' that some amazing friends are expecting, and I cannot wait to see their little bundles of joy! God is such a miracle worker, and God still answers prayers!

Happy 8 Months, baby boy!

One Year Ago

It has been exactly one year since I wrote this post. It has been one year since Aaron made it safely back home to the states from his tour from Afghanistan. It has been exactly one year, since these pics were shot:

Today is sentimental because it marked the day that I knew my soldier was safe, that God had protected him, and that after a year-long challenge for the both of us- that we would be reunited as a family, and not of two, but as three. Today is special. I have a very bad memory, but I remember today- a year ago- like it was yesterday- waking up in the hotel, getting ready, going to eat with the fam....waiting and waiting and waiting....freezing...seeing the busses pull up....having a thousand emotions in me....has he changed? What will he think of the bump? seeing them unload and get in formation....looking and looking for Aaron in the sea of camo....being released and running and running and running until I saw his face. Finally....finally...finally....seeing him. The deployment was done, the seperation was done, the danger was DONE. We were together, I was in his arms...he saw the baby bump for the first time, and he saw- for the first time- that he was going to be a daddy....

So much has changed since a year ago, we are stronger for the deployment, we have a relationship that I wouldn't change for anything. Did he have bad dreams? Yes. Does he still have bad dreams? Yes. Is he forever changed as a person? Yes. Am I forever changed? Yes. But we are stronger and better for it. God dwells in both of us all the more for simply relying in Him through one of the hardest times of our lives. And that little man playing with his toys in the other room? Yep. He may be the biggest change.

My FIRST {blog} Award

My friend and fellow Army Wiver, Dayle over at The Science of Home, has graciously awarded me the Versatile Blogger Award! Let me start by thanking my husband, baby boy, my mom who probably reads my blog the most out of anyone.....ha j/k! No, but really- Dayle and I know eachother because of Army. Our two hubs were together over at Afghanistan. She is the one that kept me sane while we sat together on that cooolllllddddd March day in Fort Stewart, Ga, anxiously waiting and watching for our hubbies to arrive on the drill field.....whew, that was emotional. So, anyways, according to her post here, I have to say 7 things people don't know about me....

1) I have to sleep with an ice pack on my eyes. Every. Single. Night. And the sweet hubs will kindly switch them out for me in the mornings, if I get to sleep in....but more often than not....in the morning I will find the one he switched out in the most odd places....instead of the freezer, the one this morning was in my car! I have been known to find them in the bathroom.... I don't think he's quite awake yet when he leaves the house....but hey, at least he's trying right?!?!

2) I am currently going to school to TEACH! It's sort of been on the DL for awhile, but I started when Aaron got deployed and I have been doing it online for the most part. I'm getting my MAT (certification and Masters) to teach early childhood! Ahhh.... soon I'll be student teaching!

3) My house has got to be straightened up before I go to bed each and every night. It just has to be. I cannot stand to go to bed with things out of their place or dirty dishes in the sink. Yep, I think I got that from my mom.

4) I LOOOOOOOOOVE massages, going to the Chiropractor, basically anyone touching my back, hair, arms, neck...I think I was a cat in a former life...

5) Having to stop nursing kinda scares me, not the in the way of ahhh scared, but I know when I hold Ryder before he goes to sleep that is what he's going to want to do, and I don't know if I have the heart to tell him no (not that he'll know what that means). I mean, I still got a couple of months, and I don't want him nursing past 1, but I'm already dreading it!!!! P.S. I'm also a huge advocate for breastfeeding...who would of thought?!?

6) I'm really bad at throwing things in places....anything in any place.....I would throw the dogs in the closet if that's what it took to straighten up. I opened my tupperware drawer in the kitchen this morning and alllll of it fell out. I'm realllly bad at this.......outta sight, outta mind is kinda my motto, and it stinks when I'm finally looking for something and it could be anywhere. Literally. That has got to change.

7) Easter is my fav holiday.....I CANNOT wait! I love the colors, decorations, candy......and most of all what it means. My Savior ROSE on that THIRD day! Halleujah!

Heart of a Champion

I'm sure you have heard this song, but for the 3% chance you haven't- you may want to grab a box of tissues! Back on Feb. 4th, a 26-year-old firefighter from Coweta County, Chris Landreau, went to the emergency room with what he thought had to do with blood pressure, but what turned out to be stage 4 non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He has been undergoing chemo at Emory ever since. He has a wife, and two small children. An American Idol finialist, Corbette Jackson, (both from Newnan) went to highschool with Chris, and wrote (and sang) a song for Chris. With the help of the singer from The Lost Trailers, Corbette sang "Heart of a Champion." You can buy the song for 99 cents off Itunes, and 100% of the proceeds go to Chris and his family. Kicks 101.5, I believe, is the only radio station that will play it. AND I WISH I could find the version I heard this morning, where Chris actually talked throughout the song about this experience, but I can't! It brought tears to my eyes. I do believe from what I have heard that Chris and his family are believers and have a strong faith (thank the Lord). I'm paraphrasing (because that was the first time I have heard this particular version), but someone told Chris, that God is walking beside you, and Chris said no, God is walking in front of me... He's leading the way. AMEN! I'm so estactic that I worship a LIVING and ALMIGHTY God!

Maybe it's because he's a firefighter, and there's a "brotherly love" that comes with that, but whatever the reason, this has touched my heart. There are plenty of ways to help Chris and his family, there are fund-raisers like this one, and t-shirts (Aaron and I have ordered one) like this. And if nothing else, prayer can beat all odds.

I'm lovin' my baby sister and her......."special friend" (that's what Ry calls him). I'm just lovin' seeing her so happy....and yes, we kinda like you too, John, I guess.... ;)

I'm lovin' that the guys all ran the 5K! I'm also lovin' that I have probably the best fam ever, and they support us in all we do! Thanks for coming out, fam (and driving, and packing the picnic.....) :)

I'm lovin' the pride and courage that every soldier has, and that those that gave all- didn't do it in vain. If only you could have felt the patriotism at Lake Lanier that morning...

I'm lovin' the hundreds and hundreds of people that participated, and those that helped. I must admit, seeing something like this always makes me proud to be the wife of an American Soldier.

I'm lovin' seeing my daddy run. He makes me proud just to be his daughter :)
